November 26-What is Thanksgiving really about?

This week was chemo free but other things took it’s place. Monday I went for what they call a bone survey, this is as I understand it a complete look at the bones inside and out from head to, in my case the knees. I am still having pain in my left thigh that at times is very intense and we have no clue what the cause is. Maybe this survey will tell us something useful. Tuesday was a follow-up with Dr. Hannum the surgeon. I had one concern on my mind and was not leaving the room until the fixed it, my right leg is now longer than my left which causes pain in my leg and back after walking about 10 minutes or so. The followup went well and he was pleased, he also gave me a heel lift to use in my shoes which made everything feel better! Mission accomplished.

Now let’s talk Thanksgiving! This year is so different than last year for my family and me, I think for the first time we all have a deeper and perhaps different definition of thanksgiving. In spite of all the tests, x-rays, biopsies, chemo meds and surgery we are thankful that we have these resources to give us more time to spend together and to make memories. Each year as families sit around the dinner table each person takes a turn listing what they are thankful for and always it includes family, jobs, home, etc..but how often do we take the time to actually think what those things mean to us or that any one of those things could be taken from us in the blink of an eye?

I ask each of you to think deeper this year about what you have to be thankful for and when you say “family” define it, don’t just say it! As for me, when I say family I think of this: time spent in doctors offices, holding my hand when I am scared, my dad caring enough to ask my to “just try it”, listening to me talk about dying when it breaks your heart to hear it, and so much more. Family is more than a word or a group of people who share D.N.A., so how will you define your family this year?

Ephesians 3:14-12-19

For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know then love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING
