July 18-Do you use your tongue as a sword?

This past week has had it’s usual trials and as always God has given me both the strength and the courage to face another day.  It isn’t often that my heart feels burdened so heavily that I lose sleep but a recent incident I witnessed caused such a feeling.  I want to talk to you about what it means to honor God and how easily we can become so focused on something that we forget that our actions and our words are a direct reflection of our heart.  Now any one that has known me for a few years can tell you that at one time in my life I believed that I had a right to say what ever was on my mind and I didn’t hesitate to do so, often with a raised voice and words dripping with anger.   I have been growing in my relationship with the Lord for a few years now but the last 2 have had the biggest impact on my self evaluation and what it truly means for me to be an ambassador for the Lord.  I have had to learn and understand that just because I may be right doesn’t give me the right to lash out, my words have power.   I have bit my tongue so often in the past 2 years that I’m surprised it has any feeling left!  but always in the end I was glad that what I said or (didn’t say )wasn’t something that I would be ashamed to face the Lord and be accountable for.   It has also become much easier for me to speak the truth in kindness because I have had a heart change and more than anything else in this world I do not want anyone to question my love for the Lord or my desire to serve and please him.  This world is full of angry, hateful people and as Christians it is our responsibility to show them what it looks and sounds like to be one of Gods children and that means being a reflection of him.   We are not called to be perfect and the 10 Commandments are just the beginning of our responsibility, so please think about the power that your words have and speak in kindness always.

Proverbs 12: 18

There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.

Proverbs 18:21

Death and life are the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

James 3: 5-6

Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things.  Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth.

And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

These scripture clearly tell us how dangerous our tongue can be.

In Gods love,

Robyn

  1. Thank you Robin. This is an area that Lord is constantly working on in my life and this is the passage the the Lord is using to transform me.
Ephesians 4:29 New International Version (NIV)
29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
Thank you for being such a Godly example to me.
