February 14-God’s Love is Perfect 365 Days a Year

Today is the official day of love and as we give and receive tokens of that love let us not forget the greatest giver of love, JESUS.  How often have you heard someone say “I would die for____(my child, spouse, parent?) but what does that really mean?  Would we be willing to suffer the depths of pain and humiliation for another person the way that Jesus did for us?  So when we are suffering pain of our own do we whine and complain as if we aren’t suppose to suffer or do we thank our Lord that we will never have to face or endure the pain that he faced and faced it for a people that will never be worthy?  These past few weeks have been particularly difficult for me because I have had time to contemplate my up coming surgery and the set of complications I have this time that were not there last time around.  I have spent the past 2 days in bed resting because the pain continues to intensify as I wait impatiently for my surgery date.  I saw the doctor Friday and we went over the game plan which includes me coming in 4-5 hours prior to surgery so that I can receive blood and iron in order to prevent a problem during surgery.  In short, I am scared and that makes me emotional but it also started me thinking about how Jesus must have felt in the days leading up to his crucifixion.   Was he scared, did he want to back out, did he simply forge ahead to do the job that he was sent here to do?  We know the answers to the questions and we know how he suffered in ways we could never endure and so when I start to dwell on my pain and situation I choose to remember that mine is but a drop in the ocean compared to what Jesus suffered for me.  I can’t imagine a greater, deeper more selfless love. Can you?

Galatians 2:20

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
